Simple Sky Replacement. This tutorial covers sky replacement using only the tools and methods of Photoshop (and Photoshop Elements). It does not require third party plugins or external programs.

However, this method may not produce the best results for complicated selections. For example, it works best when the area of sky to be replaced is bounded byrelatively straight and curved lines such as buildings. It may be less desirable when the sky is expected to show through open tree areas such as late fall branches that have lost a proportion of their leaves.

Layer Name Conventions. This tutorial explains how our 2000 sky images are named (layer names) and why.

Layer Basics. This tutorial describes the basic concept of layers in Photoshop and describes their purpose. References to books and CD/DVD training materials (by others) is included.

Layer Mask Basics. This tutorial covers the use of layer masks to create transparent areas of an image layer without actually changing the original image layer.

We plan to produce some tutorials on Photoshop and Photoshop Elements -- some in Adobe Reader (PDF) format and possibly some in video and/or browser help. This will likely begin only after we have succeeded in completing the task of entering all the data for (and testing the integrity of) our Estore/Shopping Cart.

At this site, you will find a huge collection of sky images for royalty-free use as backgrounds for digital images. More than 2000 high-resolution frames were photographed exclusively for Use these images for sky replacement in Photoshop and other digital imaging programs. We have sky replacement tutorials, sky image slideshows and contact sheets, suitable skies for use as backgrounds in every outdoor scene. At the bottom of most pages, you will find scrollable text like this that will give you more information about our products, slideshows, contact sheets, and tutorials.
